ICTs and the Disabled PDF Print E-mail
The Authority in partnership with the Youth Entrepreneurs Association of Zambia YEAZ sponsored training of twenty-two (22) disabled participants drawn from Ndola on the Copperbelt Province. The Authority rendered financial support as well as promotional materials in terms of t-shirts, brochures and a presentation from Mr. Mlauzi consumer Affairs officer on challenges of the disabled when accessing ICTs. The training was from Monday 24th to Saturday 29th of August, 2009 at Necor training Centre in Ndola. The purpose of the training was to empower the disabled youths with the ICT skills which they could use for their personal as well as National Developments because ICTs are enablers of social and economic development. The ICT training was also meant to promote the equal accessibility of information and use of the Information and Communication Technologies effectively by the disabled.  The following topics were covered; Introduction to Computers Evolution of Computers, Components of a Computer, Hardware and Software, Uses of Computers, Storage of Data/Information on a computer, Hardware Basics, Inside the Computer, System Units and Central Processing Units RAM and ROM,Output and Input Devices and Network and Communication Software. The official closing ceremony was graced by the Ndola District Commissioner representative Mr. Samiselo who was accompanied by Mr. Chisani the Provincial Youth Coordinator. Twenty two certificates of attendance were given out to the disabled youths. A representative from the trained youths thanked The Authority for sponsoring the programme but indicated that period was short .They promised to use the information acquired in their various activities.
