Standards This year, the Authority has embarked on the ambitious standardisation program. The new standards policy would seek to work with the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) to gazette the adopted/adapted regional and international standards.

Standardisation Agenda

The four (4) key areas identified for standardisation are 1) Safety, 2) Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), 3) Quality of Service and 4) Human Factors & Accessibility.
The Authority  would work closely with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU ) on areas such as Next Generation Network(NGN),Cyber Security,ICTs & Climate Change and Interoperability and Testing of equipment and networks.
The Authority intends to collaborate with the industry to ensure smooth IPv6 migration and as well as showing leadership in the migration of the legacy networks to NGN.

Safety Standards

Apart from specifying telecom installation standards that would include EMC and Earthing and Bonding Requirements, the Authority, this year, seeks to gazette and implement the Human Exposure Standard and National EMF Limits  so as to safeguard the interest of the members of the public.
In this vein, the Authority would carry out the national baseline survey to ascertain whether the more than 1000 base stations exceed the human safety limits set by the board of regulators in 2007.
